COMMENTS:

Unless you need f2.8, this is probably Canon's best "general purpose" zoom, covering the range from wideangle to short telephoto at a constant f4 aperture. It also has 2nd generation IS giving an extra 3 stops of "handholdability", making for excellent low light ability - in fact it's 2 stops better than the EF 24-70/2.8L, based on the IS system.

Optically excellent. A few early samples have a potential flare problem under some conditions which Canon fixed for free.

This lens also makes a great companion to the EF-S 10-22/3.5-4.5 for an APS-C format DSLR giving coverage from 10mm to 105mm (16mm to 168mm in full frame equivalent terms).

the EF 24-105/4L IS USM has 3 aspherical and one UD element. If you can afford it, this is a great lens.
