Lens for indoor photos
« on: March 08, 2010, 02:44:56 PM »

I am an amateur photographer and love my Rebel Digital EOS. I have had it around 3 years now. I have one lens - 18 - 200mm. My biggest disappoint is my indoor shots. My local camera shop has not been much help in solving this problem. I think I need a different lens for indoor shots - that would allow more light and a clearer picture. I have tried a flash - not much luck. My pictures often have too much "yellow" in them. I would also like a smaller lens to use indoors when I will not be needing the telephoto. This lens does need to the ability to do a little zoom. I want something reasonable. Does anyone have suggestions? Appreciate your help - Karen

Well, the best lens for indoors in low light when you don't want to spend too much is the EF 50/1.8 II. It's not a zoom, but it's fast, sharp and around $100. Anything else will be more expensive and any fast zoom will be a lot more expensive. If you really want a zoom then something like the Tamron 17-50/2.8 would probably be your best bet, but the cost is almost $500.

The yellow in your pictures can be partly corrected by adjusting the camera's white balance (check your manual).
